Chief Billy Hayes Premiere Show and Blog of the Year Winners Announced Live 2/2/11 at 9pm EST

The Firefighter Netcast Show will be live Wednesday Night at 9pm EST February 2, 2011.

Chief Billy Hayes

We will also be handing over the microphone to Chief Billy Hayes for his inaugural show on Firefighter Netcast.

His show is titled Stop, Drop, and Roll With the Punches and will focus on prevention and risk reduction in the fire service.

Wednesday night Chief Hayes and his guests will focus on the importance of prevention and risk reduction in our business, themes we are seeing, opportunities that lie before us, and items for immediate attention.

Mike Love

Mike Love worked as a firefighter for Montgomery County, Maryland for over 33 years. He served in a diverse range of positions that included extensive experience as an operational company officer, firefighter and instructor; Field Battalion Chief; Assistant Chief commanding one of three shifts of county-wide operations; Chief of Emergency Medical Services; Special Operations Chief, Supervisor of Dispatch and most recently commanded a division that included the Fire Marshal’s Office, Public Information, Community Outreach, Recruiting and Planning and Research. As Division Chief, Love served as the Montgomery County Fire Marshal. Love is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program and is a Certified Public Manager. Love is currently a freelance planning consultant and technical writer and is a member of the Maryland Fire and Burn Safety Coalition.

Chief Dennis L. Rubin

Dennis Rubin

Dennis L. Rubin is the principal partner in the fire protection-consulting firm D.L. Rubin & Associates.  The firm provides training, course development and independent review of policy and procedures for all types of fire-rescue agencies.  Rubin is currently working on several significant projects to include assisting the Columbia Southern University and ATEC, Inc., on leadership, operational and supervisory training programs.

Chief Rubin’s experience in fire and rescue service spans more than 35 years. He has served as a company grade officer, command level officer, and fire chief in several major cities including Norfolk, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, DC.  In 1994, Rubin served as the President of the State Fire Chiefs Association of Virginia. Rubin was the host Fire Chief for the 1999 Southeastern Fire Chiefs Association conference held in Dothan, Alabama.  He served on several committees with the International Association of Fire Chiefs, including a two-year term as the Health and Safety Committee Chair. Chief Rubin was the host Fire Chief for the “Wingspread IV and V” conferences held in 1996 and 2006.

Chief Rubin’s educational accomplishments include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Administration from the University of Maryland and Associates in Applied Science Degree in Fire Science Management from the Northern Virginia Community College. Chief Rubin is a 1993 graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officers Program (EFOP).  Rubin is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM); and a certified Incident Safety Officer as well has obtained the Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD) and Chief Medical Officer Designation (CMO) presented by the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

Rubin’s teaching credentials are significant.  They include a field instructorship with the University of Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute and Associate Instructorships with the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and Rio Salado Community College in Mesa, Arizona. Rubin has been an adjunct faculty member of the National Fire Academy since 1983.  At the National Fire Academy he instructed, as well as developed, many courses. Rubin is a popular speaker and lecturer at the local, state, national and international levels.

Rubin is the author of a non-fiction book entitled Rubes Rules for Survival that is available through PennWell Publishing.  He is a long-standing contributing editor of FIREHOUSE Magazine, and has written more than 150 technical articles related to fire department operations, administration, training, and safety.

Chief Rubin has a strong commitment to community service and lives in Washington, D.C.  He has three children — Dennis II, Andrea, and Ashley — and one grandchild named Luke.

Jim Marva

For over 25 years Mr. Narva has been involved in fire and life safety issues at the local, state, and federal levels.  Having served in emergency operations as well as prevention and public safety capacities over his career, Mr. Narva has a broad perspective and knowledge of the components necessary for strong public safety programs.

In 2006, after serving as the Wyoming State Fire Marshal he formed Narva & Associates, Inc., a firm specializing in association management and consulting expertise on public safety and government relations with an emphasis on emergency responder safety and enhancing the safety of the public as new technologies emerge.

Mr. Narva is currently Executive Director for the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) and also the National Association of State Fire Marshals Fire Research and Education Foundation. In addition to overall management of these organizations, he interacts directly with the Boards of Directors to implement their priorities in making our nation safer.  He is actively responsible for management of various programs and works directly with the emergency responder community, state fire marshals, government, industry and associations from across North America on technical issues regarding firefighter and public safety.

While Wyoming State Fire Marshal Mr. Narva served on the NASFM Board of Director’s where he was the Safe Energy Committee Chairman as well as the Consumer Product Safety Task Force Chairman.  His leadership with these committees’ projects focused on enhancing the safety of consumer products being developed for the marketplace and ensuring those in the marketplace met or exceeded safety standards; development of the needed training and infrastructure to ensure a safe transition from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources; and pipeline safety training for emergency responders.

In addition to the duties of the Office of State Fire Marshal in Wyoming, Mr. Narva worked on numerous statewide projects including Chairman of the Public Safety Communications Commission, a gubernatorial appointed commission charged with developing, funding and implementing a statewide interoperable radio network for emergency responders.  He also was a member of the Wyoming State Emergency Response Commission, focusing on hazardous materials training issues, and was a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigations Joint Terrorism Task Force for Wyoming.

Mr. Narva is a graduate of the Harvard University Trade Union Program and has a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR, in the fields of Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics.

    Enjoying the broadcast, the core change for life safety is at the mission and values level in our organizational design. What are our company tactics for life safety? We have a vent, search and rescue tactics among many others. What would be the engine company tactics for life safety, including our own?
