Firefighter Storytime! Chief Tom Merrill, Snyder (NY) Fire Dept.

Play

From the floor of FDIC 2010 on Saturday, April 24, our final NetCast from the exhibit floor featured two special guests from Erie County, New York. We began our series “Firefighter Storytellers” with author, presenter, instructor, emergency manager and leader in the emergency services community Tiger Schmittendorf,

Tiger Schmittendorf shares almost 20 years of experience as a specialist in the field of volunteer recruitment and retention, leadership and organizational management. He is the Deputy Fire Coordinator in Erie County, New York where he created a recruitment effort that doubled his own fire department membership and netted more than 500 new volunteers.

Tiger brought along special guest Tom Merrill, Fire Chief, Snyder (NY) Fire Department. The department is one of ten all volunteer departments protecting Amherst, a first ring suburb of the City of Buffalo.

Chief Merrill has over thousand photographs from over the years at Snyder Fire Department. He is ardently working to collate and preserve photographs which tell the story of Snyder Fire Department as they approach their Centennial in 2016.

Chief Merrill and Tiger join us in sharing several stories which demonstrate the art upon which we focus our series.

Sit back and enjoy the first program of many stories to be told right here on Firefighter NetCast!.
