On Friday, April 23, Firefighter NetCast had a visit from a couple of leaders in the concept of EMS 2.0. Justin Schorr is an urban firefighter/paramedic in San Francisco and hosts The Happy Medic. Accompanying Justin is Chris Kaiser, a rural firefighter/paramedic in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Chris is the editor of Life Under the Lights. Both Justin and Chris are fellow blogging partners of John and Rhett at FireEMSBlogs.com.
Taped live from the floor at FDIC 2010 at Indianapolis, this NetCast looks at the development of what is known as EMS 2.0- the next generation of EMS as we know it. We look at the effect of EMS 2.0 as it relates to the fire service, specifically fire-based EMS.

Discussion turned to the use of social media and the internet while on duty, and the pitfalls awaiting the uninformed. Both Justin and Chris have successfully navigated the hazards and we discuss their approach which allows for others in the future to do the same.

Rhett poses a question concerning the future of bloggers and the monetization of websites without being “swallowed up into oblivion.” It seems the answer starts with great content. As the saying goes: “content is king.”
We speak a bit on the incredible outpouring of support in a facebook effort to get Chronicles of EMS on the Discovery Channel. The effort generated some response and a firm “we’ll check it out” response from The folks at Discovery Channel. This demonstrates the incredible effect that social media can have.
What happened next was quite interesting. A large portion at the end of the NetCast produced audio that should not be missed. We’ll leave that as a tease so you can form your own opinion on what occurred. Don’t miss this one!
