The C.A.N Report


The C.A.N report is a Firefighter Netcast Production hosted by Battalion Chief Art Doss.

The title derives from an initial requested  report of an Incident Commander of the Conditions, Actions and Needs of any scene to lay out “the initial plan”.

The show will be providing a C.A.N report on topics effecting the fire service today.

His guests on the show will cover the spectrum and be providing insight and information that will spark discussions and further the interest and quest to do it better and in hopes that your time listening will add to your 10,000 hours. 

Art Doss is a Battalion Chief of Operations with Lewis-McChord Fire and Emergency Services, Tacoma Washington. Battalion Chief Doss assists in managing a newly merged fire and emergency services department in Washington State and provides command operations and leadership to 117 employees, and oversees up to 7 fire stations and two major airports and administratively the evaluation and development of the Fire Department’s 2009 – 2011 merger and assisting in the development of the strategic and disaster preparedness plans for the (now) 5th largest city in Washington State and the community, he oversees directly all technical rescue programs , training and command operations.

Originally from Springfield, Oregon. BC Doss attended Fire academy in Rantoul, Illinois and has been a part of professional fire service for 26 years.  He has been instructing and Special Operations rescue since 1987 to fire academy, technical college, police and fire at the technician level. He will be completing a Fire Administration degree in 2013, and holds Associates in Fire Science Western Oregon University and teaching certificate as a technical college fire school instructor. He currently serves as a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and has sat on technical committees, most recent for American Society for Testing and Materials as a testing and contributing member (ASTM). He has been on technical design teams that have produced some of the newest advances in technical rescue techniques and equipment design and function as well as changes to operational application.   

His experience and training is formal, certified and extensive with thousands of hours of training to fire service students and technical rescue specialists. Most recently instructing Task Force courses and international fire and rescue training exchanges with the Swedish, UK, Canadian and Malaysian Fire and Rescue Special Operation services.

 He writes and has various published articles and interviews on fire service and technical rescue topics  including the “Discovery Channel” and in periodicals such as ”Fire and Rescue”  and “Advanced Rescue Technology”.   

Battalion Chief Doss is dedicated to pride, honor and in keeping the  traditions of the fire service. He is a proud kilted member of the Pierce County Firefighters Pipes and Drums and attributes his service success to the support of his family, Kate, Senai and Alex
